It has been quite the season for the Blind Brook High School Varsity Cheerleading Team! From cheering the football team to their Independent Bowl victory this past fall to the basketball team’s recent fight to the County Center, they haven’t had a break! According to Gillian Milbauer, a junior, “We went into a regional competition in December thinking it would just be like any other competition…we weren’t expecting the get the opportunity to go to Disney.”
“All season leading to nationals we were working really hard to improve everything, so we would know that whatever happens we put forth our best effort,” said freshman, Sydney Brookman. They focused on the fundamentals that they are judged off of: difficulty, execution, crowd interaction, visual effects, and more.
A gofundme.com campaign that raised over $2,000 helped make their opportunity a reality. On Friday, February 8th, the Blind Brook Varsity Cheerleading Team ran out the iconic castle at the 2019 National High School Cheerleading Championship at Walt Disney World in Orlando. They placed 22nd overall in the coed division.
Alexandra Minella explained, “As a sophomore it made me want to try even harder for the next two years to be able to go to nationals again and do even better than we did previously.”
