Varsity Boys Basketball Season Comes to a Conclusion

Our Blind Brook Varsity Boys Basketball team’s season came to an emotional end on Friday, March 1st, against the Dobbs Ferry Eagles at Pace University. The Trojans came up just short as they pushed the Eagles to overtime. They ended up losing by a final score of 50-45 in the Section 1 Class B Championship. The Trojans were led by senior captain Chris Bucci who scored 11 points and junior guard Ryan Aiello also had 9 points.

Trailing by 3 points at half time, the Trojans came out fired up and ready to play for the second half. The game was close throughout as both teams were aided by their respective student sections. Both sides were loud throughout the game, and controversy arose when during a Dobbs Ferry free throw attempt the Blind Brook student section, seated directly behind the Eagles’ hoop, all shone their phone’s flashlights. The referees stopped this bid to distract the Dobbs Ferry player, and an announcement was made in the arena forbidding the fans from having their flashlights on.

With the Trojans down 39-36 with 10.3 seconds left, junior Ryan Aiello buried a deep three-point-shot, putting the game into overtime and sending the Blind Brook students into a frenzy. Fighting hard during their final minutes on the court, the team never stopped working, but ultimately came up just short. Senior Captain Zach Zimmerman said regarding the result: “Despite not getting the result we wanted, we accomplished a lot and are really going to miss playing together”.

This season as a whole was a very good one for our Trojans, as for the second season in a row the varsity boys’ team played in the sectional finals. The Trojans ended the season with an astonishing record of 20-4, and the entire school community is looking forward to next basketball season and this upcoming season of spring sports.
